Claudia LAU

Claudia Lau is a ceramist and the creative director of House Editions. Her practice spans the disciplines of art, design and production, materialising through a spectrum of functional and domestic objects to abstract sculpture, interiors and installation. Her practice and production studio, House Editions, is grounded in process and methodology at each stage of production, providing an opportunity for exploration, experimentation and refinement. 

Inverting conventional ceramic approaches, her work involves an expanded approach to surface through glaze, embodying material histories, surface and atmosphere. With knowledge of material chemistry, her practice centres on the transformative nature of materials and the potential of ceramic glaze. Her work investigates how embodied material histories in glaze can act as both material and conceptual element. 

Since establishing House Editions in Jingdezhen, China, she has been working and living between her Melbourne base and the historic centre of porcelain.
